Softball takes split with No. 5 Lubbock Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 27, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team split Sunday's double header with No. 5 ranked Lubbock Christian University (Texas) taking the first game 9-3 and losing the second 5-3 in the ninth inning.

Game 1

The Lady Eagles took to the lead first with a home run hit by Davee Croy to score a run for OC and lead 1-0 heading into the second.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Lady Eagles sent two more runners home to take a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth. Sarah Peoples rounded the bases first, heading home on a wild pitch. Croy followed Peoples home for another score on two consecutive passed balls.

In the top of the fourth, the Lady Chaps sent three runners home to tie things up at 3-3. Unable to score in the bottom of the inning and with a scoreless fifth, the squads headed into the sixth still tied up at 3-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Eagles made big plays sending six runners home to take a commanding 9-3 lead. When Peoples reached base on an error, Jade Tallbull made it home for a score. On the next batter, Deidre Chatigny reached first on a fielder's choice that turned into an error allowing Michelle Miller to make it home.

With the bases loaded, Lauren Walk hit a sacrifice fly to send in Megan Bray from third. On the throw, Peoples followed home as well for a two-run play. With Chatigny still on base, Croy took the plate and hit another home run to score two more for the Lady Eagles.

When the Lady Chaps were unable to respond in the seventh, the Lady claimed the 9-3 win. Croy led at the plate with 2-for-3 hitting, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Game 2

Lubbock Christian was the first to get on the board in the second game, scoring two runs in the second. Following a scoreless third, the Lady Eagles got one run on the board in the fourth when Kayla Jennings headed home on a single from Tallbull.

In the fifth, the Lady Chaps added another score to lead 3-1 heading into the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Jennings made it home on a ground out from Miller to give OC another score still trailing 2-3 heading into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Walk hit a single to centerfield allowing Peoples to make it home for the tie and send the game into extra innings tied 3-3.

After a scoreless eighth, the Lady Chaps registered two scores in the ninth and when the Lady Eagles were unable to respond, LCU claimed the 5-3 victory.

Jennings and Taylor Renshaw led OC at the plate with each going 2-for-4 while Jennings scored two runs in the process.

The split leaves the Lady Eagles at 6-4 overall and with an even 3-3 conference record. The OC softball team will return to the diamond on Tuesday as they host Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
