Lady Eagles pick up two in Alva

ALVA, Okla. (Feb. 22, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team claimed two blow out conference wins over Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Tuesday winning game one 7-2 and taking the second 10-2.

Game 1

In the first game, the Lady Eagles were the first to score when Taylor Renshaw smashed a home run in the top of the second to put OC up 1-0.

Following a scoreless third inning, the Lady Eagles picked up another run in the top of the fourth when Kayla Jennings hit a home run as well for an additional score leaving OC at a 2-0 advantage.

With the Lady Rangers unable to respond, the OC women added another five runs in the fifth to push to a commanding 7-0 lead. Deidre Chatigny, Sarah Peoples, and Megan Bray all scored on a costly error by NWOSU following a single by Davee Croy. On the next at bat, Jennings tacked on another homer to send in Croy.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Rangers sent two runners home to cut the Lady Eagle lead to five with OC taking the win at 7-2.

Jennings led OC at the plate with 2-for-4 hitting in addition to scoring two runs and tallying three RBI. Peoples helped out as well going 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Ashley Paxton picked up the win pitching a complete game and tallying 10 strikeouts.

Game 2

To start off the second game, OC tallied a run in the first to take the early lead when Lauren Walk made it home on a passed ball.

Two innings later in the top of the third, the Lady Eagles collected three more runs with the first coming when Jennings singled to send home Walk from second. Three batters later, Michelle Miller connected on a double to left field to send home Jennings and Renshaw putting OC up 4-0.

After a scoreless fourth, the Lady Eagles put up two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Jennings scored the first run on a single from Renshaw while Renshaw scored the second on a double from Paxton.

The Lady Rangers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning, however, OC responded with their biggest inning yet tallying four runs in the sixth. Walk again rounded the bases for the first score when Croy hit a double left center field. A fielding error later allowed Croy to make it home for another run. The final two scores came when Renshaw connected on another homer to send Jade Tallbull in from second base.

NWOSU added one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but unable to score any further, the game ended with the Lady Eagles taking a 10-2 run rule victory.

Renshaw and Walk came away with successful hitting as both went 3-for-4 at the plate while Renshaw tallied three RBI and both tallied three runs apiece.

Leigh Leonard tallied the win pitching the entire six innings and recording 11 strikeouts in the process.

The two wins bring the Lady Eagles to a 5-3 season record and to 2-2 in conference play. OC will return to the diamond on Thursday as they host Lubbock Christian University (Texas) for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
