Softball falls following tournament run

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 7, 2011) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team closed their season in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday after taking a three-game rebound for a shot at the championship before falling to No. 6 Lubbock Christian University.

On Friday, the Lady Eagles fell 4-0 to a stout Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) squad as they struggled at the plate tallying just three hits.

Despite the first round loss, the OC women utilized the double elimination tournament to storm back into position to be a tournament competitor.

The Lady Eagles next faced Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Friday afternoon and stormed past the Lady Cavaliers with a 12-5 victory. Several Lady Eagles hit with a vengeance with Deidre Chatigny leading the way going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Lauren Walk made a big contribution as well with 3-for-4 hitting and three RBI while Taylor Renshaw and Michelle Miller helped out as well each going 2-for-3. Jade Tallbull added to the mix going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Following their win over the Cavaliers, the Lady Eagles took on No. 25 Oklahoma Baptist University showing no mercy on the Lady Bison. OC was the first to get on the board with runs in the second and third innings, however, the Lady Bison tied things up in the seventh to take things into extra innings.

Eager to continue on, the Lady Eagles fired in three runs in the ninth to take the game with a 5-2 victory. Kayla Jennings and Walk both went 2-for-4 at the plate with Walk registering two RBI in the process.

Advancing to the next round, the Lady Eagles took on Southern Nazarene for a rematch on Saturday morning. Over the first two innings, the Crimson Storm gained a 2-0 lead that they held until the sixth.

During the top of the sixth, the Lady Eagles sent home three runners behind a home run from Davee Croy and a single from Miller to take the lead by a single run heading into the final inning. OC recorded the 3-2 win with the Crimson Storm unable to respond in the seventh.

With the win over SNU, the Lady Eagles advanced to a semifinal round against Lubbock Christian University (Texas). OC tallied the first lead with a run from Tallbull in the second; however, the Lady Eagles struggled to send runners home the remainder of the game.

The Lady Eagles held the 1-0 lead through the fifth, but the Lady Chaparrals put up three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to end the game with an 8-1 victory.

Despite the loss, OC's Jennings and Tallbull each went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagles at the plate.

With the loss to the Lady Chaps, the Lady Eagles ended their season with a 40-14 record for the season.
