OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 5, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball team fell 10-7 in the first game of their doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday and closed the night out on an unfinished 8-8 tie in the second game.
Game 1
The Lady Eagles took off on a great start in the first game as they brought home six runs to take an early lead. Christin Dobbs made the first score for the Lady Eagles on an Amber Canady double. Ashley Calles tripled to bat in Canady and then scored herself when Amy Urbanovsky hit a single.
After two strikeouts, Michelle Miller got on base with a single while Urbanovsky proceeded to score when Kayla Jennings singled. Miller brought in another run after Deidre Chatigny singled and then Jennings scored when Canady made her second hit of the inning.
The Lady Eagles led 6-0 heading into the second inning before each team scored a lone run in the second. DaVee Croy rounded the bases for the Lady Eagles to make the score 7-1.
The Lady Rangers got down to business in the third inning and registered eight runs on the Lady Eagles to take to a 9-7 lead. NWOSU scored one more run in the fifth and held the Lady Eagles scoreless the remainder of the game to take the 10-7 victory.
Dobbs and Jennings led the Lady Eagles at the plate each hitting three for four and scoring one run. Jennings also tallied one RBI.
Amber Canady went two for four with one run and two RBIs.
Game 2
The OC squad again took to an early lead in the second game against NWOSU. The Lady Eagles tallied four runs in the first two innings, and held the Lady Rangers scoreless until the fourth.
With the bases loaded in the first, Croy hit a double to send in Canady and Calles. Urbanovsky came home on the next batter when Taylor Renshaw hit a single.
In the second inning, Jennings tallied another run for the Lady Eagles on a Dobb's single to make the score 4-0.
The Lady Rangers responded in the top of the fourth netting four runs to tie up the game. However, the Lady Eagles responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-4 lead.
Two scores came from Jennings and Chatigny on a Dobb's double and Dobb's scored the third on a sacrifice fly from Canady.
Renshaw made her way around the bases in the fifth to give the Lady Eagles another run as they held NWOSU to scoreless fifth and sixth innings.
In the seventh inning, the Lady Rangers registered another four runs to tie up the game. With the Lady Eagles unable to seal the win, the game was cut short for lighting and will be finished in a tiebreaker when OC heads to NWOSU on April 8.
Jennings led the Lady Eagles hitting as she went three for four with two runs and a RBI. Dobbs went two for four with three RBIs and Croy added another two RBIs going two for four from the plate. Canady added another RBI going two for three.
Sophia McKean pitched the majority of the game for the Lady Eagles and tallied four strikeouts and five earned runs.
The Lady Eagles return to play on Saturday as they host Lubbock Christian University at home at 12 p.m.
