OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 1, 2011) – A spirited rally by Oklahoma Christian fell just short Saturday night, as Southern Nazarene hung on for a 2-1 win over the Eagles.
Aziz Tapsoba had a goal and an assist for SNU (2-6, 1-0 Sooner Athletic Conference), which snapped a six-game losing streak with the win over its longtime archrival.
Oklahoma Christian (4-2-3, 0-1-1) lost senior captain Neil Hilton to an ankle injury early in the second half and never seemed in sync offensively after that, even though the Eagles outshot SNU 28-12.
Tapsoba scored from long range in the 52nd minute to put the Crimson Storm ahead, then assisted 15 minutes later on a goal by Blake Rodgers that made it 2-0.
OC's Joe Broam was taken down in the penalty area in the 74th minute and Tommy Guernsey converted the ensuing penalty kick to pull the Eagles within 2-1.
OC peppered SNU goalkeeper Blake Anderson with shots in the final minutes, but Anderson and the Storm defense proved up to the task, stopping one OC shot on the goal line. Anderson finished with eight saves, while OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer had four saves.
SNU coach George Schroeder received a yellow card in the final two minutes.
