Eagles' soccer season ends with 4-0 loss at Lubbock Christian

Will Binder is one of three OC seniors whose college career ended Tuesday with a 4-0 loss at Lubbock Christian.

LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 4, 2011) – Sooner Athletic Conference scoring leader Billy Forbes had a goal and two assists Friday as Lubbock Christian blanked Oklahoma Christian 4-0 in the first round of the SAC men's soccer tournament.

It was the fourth straight season during which OC (8-6-4) saw its season end in the SAC tournament's first round. The seventh-seeded Eagles lost to second-seeded Lubbock Christian (13-3-3) for the second time in eight days, having dropped a 2-0 decision in Oklahoma City on Oct. 27.

Unlike that game, in which OC outshot the Chaparrals 21-16, the Eagles never gave themselves much of a chance Tuesday. Lubbock Christian outshot OC 26-6 and was in control throughout the match.

"They came out with a lot of energy and we never matched it," OC head coach David Scott said. "We made a lot of mistakes that led to easy opportunities for them."

Less than two minutes before halftime, Forbes broke a scoreless tie. OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer saved an initial shot by Lubbock Christian's Adam Goodnight, but Forbes put in the rebound for his 23rd goal of the season.

When the second half started, the floodgates opened. In the 51st minute, Tony Stock put the Chaparrals up 2-0 with an unassisted goal. About 10 minutes later, Forbes assisted on another goal by Stock. Then, in the 69th minute, Estevan Ramirez's first goal of the season – off assists by Forbes and Goodnight – gave the Chaparrals a 4-0 bulge and ended all doubt.

Spencer made nine saves in 79 minutes before giving way to Connor Davenport, who played the final 11 minutes and recorded one save.

Lubbock Christian's starting goalkeeper, Hunter Ganze, had two saves in 69 minutes before being replaced by Tim Saucedo, who completed the shutout. Saucedo had gone the distance in shutting out OC last week.

The Chaparrals will host sixth-seeded Rogers State in Monday's semifinals. Sixth-seeded Rogers State beat No. 3 seed John Brown 2-0 in another first-round game.

The loss ended the careers of three OC seniors – defender Will Binder, midfielder and captain Neil Hilton and forward Trey Boykin.
