Texas Wesleyan rallies for 78-74 win over visiting Eagles

Devan White scored 18 points for OC in a 78-74 loss at Texas Wesleyan.

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 14, 2011) – Eric Frederick scored 42 points, fueling a rally from a 10-point second-half deficit as No. 10-ranked Texas Wesleyan beat visiting Oklahoma Christian 78-74 on Monday night at the Sid Richardson Center.

Frederick spent last season at NCAA Division I Florida International, where he averaged 12.6 points per game. He scored 31 points in Texas Wesleyan's season opener, and on Monday, in his second game with the Rams, the 6-foot-8 forward either bulled his way inside for close-in buckets or fired away from behind the 3-point line. He went 13-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point rang

Despite Frederick's outstanding performance, OC (3-1) led for a good chunk of the game. Behind 15 first-half points by freshman Nick Tate, the Eagles led 30-29 at halftime.

The Eagles had a six-point possession early in the second half, as Brandon Troutman hit a 3-pointer as a foul was called away from the ball on Texas Wesleyan (2-0). The basket counted and OC kept possession and Devan White followed with another 3-pointer. A driving layup moments later by Kendre Talley put the Eagles ahead 44-34 with 14:19 left.

But the Rams started their own run of 3-pointers. Treys by Frederick and Brian Talley keyed a 15-4 run by Texas Wesleyan, giving the Rams a 49-48 lead. A bucket by OC's Eric Randall with 10:50 left put the Eagles back ahead briefly, but Frederick hit a 3-pointer 12 seconds later to put Texas Wesleyan back on top at 52-50.

Texas Wesleyan extended its lead to 68-59 before the Eagles rallied, coming as close as 71-69 on a basket by Randall with 2:13 left. But Frederick responded with a 3-pointer and the Rams made just enough free throws down the stretch to keep the Eagles at bay.

Tate led OC with 20 points, while White scored 18 and Randall had 16. Moss scored 18 points for the Rams.

OC will return home to play in-state rival Langston on Thursday. The Eagles beat the Lions 75-71 on Nov. 8 at Langston.
