PRESCOTT, Ariz. (Sept. 3, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision on Friday while the women fell in a 4-0 shutout against California State University – San Marcos.
The Lady Eagles pushed hard through 90 minutes of play but were unable to come up with a goal. OC's Hannah Jackson fired the only two shots on target out of an OC total of eight.
With the Lady Eagles struggling offensively, OC spent the majority of their time on the defense as they underwent 23 shots from the Lady Cougars, eight of which were on goal. The Lady Cougars connected on four of the eight to come out on top over the Lady Eagles with a 4-0 shutout win.
The men's match saw similar play as CSUSM attacked hard against the OC front. Nearly half way through the first period, the Cougars took advantage of a penalty kick after a handball in the box to lead the Eagles 1-0. Shortly thereafter, however, a call in the box opposite the field led to a Neil Hilton penalty kick to even things up at 1-1.
Despite Hilton's equalizer, the Cougars responded with another goal to again take the lead with a 2-1 advantage. Regardless of the Eagles' efforts to reply, CSUSM fended OC off to take the win.
Still early in the season, the Lady Eagles now hold a 1-2 record while the men drop to 0-3.
The OC soccer teams return to the field in Prescott, Ariz. on Sunday to play Embry Riddle Aeronautical University – Prescott. The men kick off at 11 a.m. with the women to follow at 1 p.m.
