Ashley Paxton allowed only five hits, but No. 25 OC fell 2-0 to No. 18 Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Friday.
CONWAY, Ark. (March 9, 2012) – No. 25 Oklahoma Christian split its games Friday in the Central Baptist Invitational, beating Baker (Kan.) 8-0 but falling 2-0 to No. 18 Williams Baptist (Ark.).
In the opener against Baker (3-3), Davee Croy homered and Lindsy Moore tossed a three-hit shutout for OC (12-5) and the Lady Eagles rolled to a run-rule win over the Wildcats.
Courtney Starr's two-run double to left-centerfield put OC up 2-0 in the second inning and Kala Ratliff's bases-loaded triple keyed a four-run third inning for the Lady Eagles. Croy made it 8-0 with her home run over the left-field fence off Baker starter Maggie Holmberg (0-3).
OC finished with 10 hits, including 2-for-3 efforts by Starr and Monique Elliott.
Meanwhile, Moore only allowed one Baker baserunner as far as second base. Moore (6-0) walked one and struck out two batters.
The win set up a showdown with another top-25 team in Williams Baptist, but the Lady Eagles' bats went silent against Karisa Hendrix (11-2), who allowed only a leadoff single to centerfield in the fourth inning by Elliott.
Ashley Paxton (3-4) allowed five hits and struck out five batters, but Williams Baptist (18-3) scratched out a run in the fourth, as Laura Tucker singled and scored. Mallarie Lee singled and scored on an error in the fifth for Williams Baptist.
