CLAREMORE, Okla. (March 29, 2012) – Ashley Paxton went the distance in the pitching circle and Megan Webb went 3-for-3 as No. 21-ranked Oklahoma Christian beat Rogers State 6-3 in the first game of a softball doubleheader on Thursday at the Hillcat Complex.
Rogers State bounced back to win the second game 1-0.
OC (26-10, 7-7 Sooner Athletic Conference) tied the opener at 2-2 on a two-run single to right-center field by Kala Ratliff in the top of the fourth off Laura Fleck. The Lady Eagles went ahead 4-2 in the fifth when Kayla Jennings' two-out double down the left-field line scored Monique Elliott and Sarah Peoples.
Webb's RBI single in the sixth made it 5-2 and the Lady Eagles tacked on another insurance run in the seventh.
Paxton (9-6) allowed eight hits and struck out six for OC. Fleck gave up 13 hits for the Hillcats (28-7, 1-3).
The Lady Eagles wasted a strong pitching outing by Kimberly Cusher (1-2) and Taylor Mosher in the second game. The duo combined to limit Rogers State to four hits, but Fleck (20-5) threw a five-hit shutout for the Hillcats despite not striking out a single batter.
Ashlie Fauchier singled to open the bottom of the fourth for Rogers State, took second on a ground ball and scored the game's only run on a single to centerfield by Taran Threet.
OC had two runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but stranded all of them.
The Lady Eagles will be off until next Thursday, when they visit SAC rival Southern Nazarene.
