Halftime Deficit Too Much to Overcome for Eagle Men

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Trailing by 19 at halftime, Oklahoma Christian cut the Texas A&M-Kingsville advantage down to eight before eventually falling in south Texas, 71-63.

Miles Gibson led all OC scorers with 15 points, followed by Carson Jones (13) and Jason Clark (10). While the trio combined for 38 of the maroon-and-gray's 63 points, the TAMUK defense also forced the trio into 16 turnovers.

After losing the opening half, 41-22, the Eagle defense recorded a season-high 12 steals to hold Kingsville to 30 second-half points, cutting the deficit down to eight before time ran out on Oklahoma Christian.

OC's Clark hit a layup 36 seconds into play before the maroon-and-gray did not score another point until the 12:18 mark. The Eagles rallied off a few short runs late in the half to keep the score under 20 before mounting a comeback in the second half.

With the lead back up to 19, Oklahoma Christian used a 15-3 run to bring the score to 51-43 with 11:39 on the clock - the closest the game head been since the 17:19 mark of the first half.

The Javelinas' timely shot making kept the lead intact, however, as TAMUK reestablished the double-digit advantage until OC whittled it down to single digits before the final buzzer, 71-63.

Oklahoma Christian (7-5, 2-4 LSC) will host UT Permian Basin and Angelo State inside the Payne Athletic Center Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. in the first home games of 2026.
