EDMOND, Okla. - Similar to last year's meeting between Oklahoma Christian vs. UT Permian Basin, a late three-pointer from the Falcons downed the Eagles Thursday night inside the Payne Athletic Center, 82-80.
Oklahoma Christian out-shot Permian Basin, 45.5 percent (25-of-55) to 43.8 percent (32-of-73), but the Falcons knocked down eight three-pointers on the evening, including six in the first half, compared to just two for OC. Of UTPB's two second-half three-pointers, the biggest one of the night came with 51 seconds left in regulation.
With the Eagles grabbing the lead with 7:21 remaining in the second half, the lead remaining as such until just under a minute. Sharrod Taylor, who had made just nineteen threes in the previous 10 games, nailed his sixth sixth triple of the evening to put the Falcons ahead, 79-77, and give UTPB the leg up.
Despite OC tying it seconds later on a
Carson Jones layup, foul trouble kept the Eagles' hands tied as Permian Basin went right back down to retake the lead, 81-79. A 1-for-2 trip at the free-throw line on the other end for the maroon-and-gray signaled the end as UTPB came away with the 82-80 victory.
Oklahoma Christian (7-6, 2-5 LSC) will look to rebound Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. when Angelo State comes to the Payne Athletic Center.
