EDMOND, Okla. - With the 2025 regular season consisting of just 12 more games, Oklahoma Christian will play its second-to-last road series against Texas Permian Basin beginning Friday, Apr. 11 at 2 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (8-30, 7-29 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian kicked off the Cameron home series with a 12-4 win over the Aggies. Starting pitcher
Chris Jones (4-2) threw six of the seven innings, tying a season-high eight strikeouts while allowing four runs on just three hits. Jones is tied for 16th in the Lone Star Conference among pitchers with at least 37 innings pitched with a 6.50 ERA.
Justin Spencer played one of the best four-game stretches of his collegiate career against CU, claiming all three of his home runs this season across the two days. In the series, Spencer hit .545 (6-for-11), slugged 1.727 with three homers, a triple and two doubles as all six of his hits went for extra bases, and held an on-base percentage of .667 with four walks to go with his six hits.
Oklahoma Christian has worked the sixth-most walks in the conference this season, averaging just over five walks per game. Leading the entire league in that category is
Hunter Jones with 41. Also aiding in the Eagles' walk numbers is
Reed Thomas who, despite seeing just one hit in his last 16 at-bats, is sporting a 24-game on-base streak after getting walked in six of his last seven contests played.
The Eagles have not won in Odessa, Texas, since 2016, but did win the three-game series against UTPB back in 2021 when the location had to be moved from Odessa to Midland, Texas. Permian Basin leads the all-time series, 15-11, while the Falcons currently hold a two-game win streak over the maroon-and-gray. Â
SCOUTING TEXAS PERMIAN BASIN (13-24, 13-23 LSC)
Texas Permian Basin returns to Roden Field after a four-game road sweep of Sul Ross State that saw UTPB post two run-rule victories, winning the four games by a combined 83-38. Similar to Oklahoma Christian, Permian Basin holds a better road record (8-12) than home record (5-12) in 2025.
Paired this weekend with Oklahoma Christian's proclivity to work walks is the Falcons' tendency to throw walks as they are 12th in the league with 216 walks issues, averaging nearly six walks offered per outing. As a staff, UTPB holds a 10.00 ERA, which also ranks 12th. At the plate, Permian Basin is hitting .309 as a team, which is seventh in the conference.Â
