EDMOND, Okla. - Off its first conference series win of the 2025 campaign, Oklahoma Christian looks to build on its three-game winning streak with the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas coming to the Sooner State for a four-game weekend series beginning Friday, Mar. 7 at 5 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (5-11, 5-11 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian enters this weekend off a series victory over Texas A&M International, three games to one. This past weekend was OC's first outright series win on the road since Feb. 13, 2023. Currently sitting at 5-11 and 10th in the Lone Star Conference standings, this is the Eagles' best 16-game start since that same 2023 season.
Oklahoma Christian claimed 10 or more hits in three of the four games against the Dustdevils on its way to victory. Of the maroon-and-gray's 45 total hits across the four games, 23 of those came from
Trey Migl (10-for-18),
Hunter Jones (6-for-13),
Reed Thomas (7-for-18). In addition to Jones' six-hit weekend, the senior catcher recorded three home runs, including his first career two-home run game, finishing the series with a 1.231 slugging percentage and 10 RBI, while also working five walks for a .650 on-base percentage.
The Eagles are ninth in the conference in both team batting average (.278) and team ERA (8.23). Migl, Jones and
Cason Gregory are leading the average at the plate with the trio each hitting .340, which is tied for 39th in the league, while
Tristan Copeland and
Chris Jones lead the pitching staff with a 3.05 and 5.40 ERA, respectively. Coming out of the bullpen, closer
Naut Kragt recorded two saves this past weekend. including in the weekend finale against TAMIU to clinch the series.
In last year's four-game series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Oklahoma Christian lost three of the four games by a combined five runs, including two games decided by one run. The Javelinas lead the all-time series, 18-7, while currently sporting a six-game winning streak over the Eagles.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (13-9, 12-8 LSC)
Texas A&M-Kingsville is off to its best 20-game start in conference play since 2022. This will be TAMUK's second trip to the Sooner State of the 2025 season, defeating Cameron, three games to one, in Lawton back in early Feb. The Javelinas are 4-5 on the road compared to 9-4 at home this season.
Kingsville boasts the fourth-best pitching staff in the conference with a 4.73 team ERA. Of TAMUK's three pitchers with at least three starts on the year, the worst ERA of the trio is 4.35. Ulises Quiroga (3-1), having made three stats and six appearances with a team-most 26.0 innings pitched, carries a 2.42 ERA and an LSC fifth-most 30 strikeouts and a tied-for-sixth fewest seven walks.
