Baseball Battles Eastern New Mexico Beginning Friday

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian will makes its one and only trip to the Land of Enchantment this season when the Eagles pass through Texas to meet Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M., for a four-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.

EAGLE OUTLOOK (7-22, 6-22 LSC)
Michael Adair claimed a hit in all three games in which he appeared in the batting lineup against West Texas A&M in this past weekend's four-game series, with Adair going a combined 4-for-7. Including working four walks on the weekend, Adair held an on-base percentage of .692 over that stretch. Adair is second the team with a .505 on-base percentage for the season, which is 15th in the Lone Star Conference.

The Eagles were competitive at the plate against the Buffs, even outhitting WT in game two of the weekend series, 4-1, but the maroon-and-gray left 37 men on base between the four games, including at least 12 in two of the contests. Oklahoma Christian is eighth in the league in on-base percentage (.397) and walks (145) but is only 11th in extra-base hits (75) and 12th in total hits (245) in an effort to get those same base runners across the plate.

This season, the Eagles are just 2-15 at home but are 5-7 on the road for their second-best road record through 12 games in the last four years. Oklahoma Christian has only had one winning road record since joining the Lone Star Conference at 11-7 in 2021 before finishing 9-18 away from a home in 2022 in what was a full 52-game season. That year, OC was just 4-8 through the first 12 such contests.

In the last meeting between these two programs, Eastern New Mexico moved ahead in the all-time series, 10-9. After Oklahoma Christian won eight of the first 11 meetings with the Greyhounds, ENMU has since won seven of the last eight. Eastern has won five straight over the Eagles in Portales as the maroon-and-gray have not won on Greyhound Baseball Field since 1999.

SCOUTING EASTERN NEW MEXICO (18-12, 16-12 LSC)
At 18-12, Eastern New Mexico has matched its best 30-game start since 2018. The Greyhounds have won six of their last seven games coming into this weekend, including a pair of wins over then-No. 4 UT Tyler at home. Most recently, ENMU averaged 21.3 runs per game in its four-game series at Sul Ross State, including 27 runs in the finale, which is the third most in program history.

With the help of this past weekend's offensive showcase, Eastern New Mexico is fifth in the conference with a team batting average of .335 while it leads the league in triples (15) while being third in extra-base hits (124). Leading the charge individually is seniors Willie Ponce and Luciano Terilli, who are both hitting over .410 and slugging over .700.
