SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After two rounds at historic Torrey Pines, No. 8 Oklahoma Christian is tied for 13th at the 20-team UC San Diego Invitational with a 36-hole score of 43-over 619.
Serving as the only NCAA Division II program in the DI field, OC is just nine strikes back on 10th place. After finishing round one in 15th place with a 27-over 315, the Eagles tied for the eighth best second round of the field with a 16-over 304.
Oskari Nikku paces the Oklahoma Christian five-bag after two rounds, sitting in sixth place with a 3-over 147 following a day-two, 1-over 73. Nikku carded five birdies to to lead the team in round two after recording three birdies on day one.
Exequiel Rodriguez saw the second best day of any OC golfer with a 2-over 74 to climb the leaderboard to a tie for 94th after a 16-over 88 in round one to start the day tied for 109th. After playing the first six holes 3-over par, the final 12 holes had the reigning LSC Academic Player of the Year 1-under par.
Alex Rigby, who is playing this week as an individual, saw the third best round of the afternoon for the Eagles with a 5-over 77 to sit alongside Rodriguez with an 18-over 162.
Of the OC five-bag,
Leandro Mihaich recorded a first-round 7-over 79 before posting a second-round 6-over 78 for a second-best 13-over 157 through 36 holes for the maroon-and-gray.
Blas Ayesa and
Joey Lewis round out the Eagle five-bag with a 16-over 160 and 19-over 163 for a spot at 87th and 101st, respectively, in the 111-player field.
No. 8 Oklahoma Christian will return to Torrey Pines for the third and final round Tuesday, Mar. 25 in an effort to climb into the top-10.Â
