EDMOND, Okla. - Following an historic 20-9 victory over Southern Nazarene Tuesday, Mar. 18 which featured seven home runs for the Eagles, Oklahoma Christian will return to conference action when West Texas A&M comes to Dobson Field for a four-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 21 at 5 p.m.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (7-18, 6-18 LSC)
Five of Oklahoma Christian's seven home runs Tuesday came from
Trey Migl (3) and
Grant Voss (2). Two of Migl's home runs while both of Voss' blasts came in the fourth inning alone. The Carl Albert State College junior transfer, who came into Tuesday's contest one for his last 18 at the plate, broke through his slump with three home runs, marking the most by an OC player in a single game since Apr. 2, 2021.
Texas-Arlington senior transfer shortstop
Cason Gregory leads Oklahoma Christian with a .345 batting average, thanks to a pair of hits in each of his last three games, including a double in each outing during that stretch. Directly behind Gregory is Dayton senior transfer
Michael Adair at .343 with consecutive multi-hit contests. As a team, OC is ninth in the LSC with a .286 batting average.
Oklahoma Christian's most consistent starter on the mound has been senior
Chris Jones (3-1) with a 4.96 ERA. In his last three starts, Jones has not allowed more than the three earned runs while recording 12 total strikeouts. Outside of Jones, OC has four pitchers with at least two starts as the Eagle coaches are seeking that second consistent starter.
The maroon-and-gray have dropped four straight against West Texas A&M as the Buffs lead the all-time series, 20-3. Oklahoma Christian found victory in last year's series finale at Dobson Field, 7-5, with a three-run bottom of the eighth inning, marking OC's first ever win over WT at home.  Â
SCOUTING WEST TEXAS A&M (19-7, 17-7 LSC)
West Texas A&M has been in and out of the NCBWA Top-25, with its most recent trip in the polls coming at No. 23 before splitting a four-game series against then-No. 7 UT Tyler. Most recently, WT swept Sul Ross St. by a combined score of 60-11. The Buffs are 12-1 at home but are just 6-6 in true road games.
West Texas A&M boasts the conference's second-best team ERA (4.56) and third-best team batting average (.332). All eight of their players with at least 20 starts this season are hitting .310 or better. Pitchers Matt Milner and Nathan Scott, who have seven starts each, carry 4.15 and 4.80 ERA, respectively, into Dobson Field this weekend. Reliever Tai Phetluangsy has four saves and owns a 3-1 record, all in relief, and has allowed just four runs in 20.1 innings of work for a 1.77 ERA.
