EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian will play its first non-conference game of the season Tuesday, Mar. 18, when Southern Nazarene makes the short trek from Bethany to Dobson Field for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
EAGLE OUTLOOK (6-18, 6-18 LSC)
Oklahoma Christian was able to take a game from No. 14 St. Edward's in Austin, Texas, over the weekend in what was just the Hilltoppers' second home loss of the season. The Eagles then came up just short in the series finale as a six-run ninth inning left OC one run shy of forcing SEU to come to bat one final time, 11-10.
In the game-three victory,
Chris Jones (3-1) got the win on the mound, throwing five innings of relief and allowing just two runs on seven hits. Jones has the second lowest ERA of anyone on the team who has thrown at least 20 innings at 4.96, which is the 14th best among qualified pitchers in the Lone Star Conference.
First-year Eagles
Michael Adair,
Reed Thomas and
Grant Voss are adding a nice boost to the OC offense. Adair and Thomas are currently sporting a 10 and 12-game on-base streak, respectively, while Voss is riding a five-game hitting streak, seeing seven hits during that stretch, and is hitting .421 in just his nine games played. Adair, who is hitting .339 on the season, is second on the team behind
Hunter Jones (25) with 15 walks.
Tuesday will be the 72nd time the cross-town foes have met but the first time since 2021, when OC defeated Southern Nazarene at home, 7-0. The Eagles are currently sporting a two-game win streak over the Crimson Storm and are 24-15 all-time when playing at Dobson Field against SNU.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE (7-18, 3-12 GAC)
Southern Nazarene opened the year 3-1, but have since dropped 17 of its last 21 games. Despite the recent stretch, SNU is seeing its best 25-game start to a season since 2023. The Crimson Storm are 5-8 at home but are just 2-10 on the road and are averaging 4.8 runs per game in such contests. Something will have to give, as OC is on an 11-game home skid heading into Tuesday.
Jason Gless and
Antonio Sabala are leadinn the Crimson Storm bats, hitting .368 and .359, respectivley, with Gless bringing an eight-game hitting streak to Dobson Field. Both squads are just about equal in its team on-base percentage, with SNU holding the slight edge, .389 to .387. The Eagles will look to get after Southern Nazarene's pitching as the lowest ERA on the entire staff is starter Christian Garcia at 5.08. Â
