Eagles' Balanced Offensive Attack Too Much for Mustangs

EDMOND, Okla. - Four players scored at least 14 points Saturday afternoon against Midwestern State as Oklahoma Christian captured its first conference win of the young season, 83-75.

After trailing by six at halftime behind 29 first-half points, OC exploded with its most points in a single half this season with a 54-point second half. Helping fueling the second-half scoring outburst was a 63.6 shooting percentage (21-of-33) in the game's final 20 minutes.

Ma'Syn Howell delivered his best game as an Eagle, tallying 17 points on just 6-of-8 shooting while knocking down all five of his free-throws. Carson Jones and Miles Gibson got it done on both sides of the ball with three steals each accompanying their 16 and 14 points, respectively. Jason Clark (18) was the fourth Eagle to score in double figures.

Midwestern State led for most of the first half and by as much as eight before heading to the locker room with the 35-29 advantage. The Eagles came out of intermission aggressive with a new type of energy, scoring the first seven points of second-half action, capitalized by a Jones and-1 with 17:07 on the clock to give OC its first lead 15:46 mark of the first half.

Over the next five and a half minutes of game time, play saw 10 lead changes before the Eagles took the lead for good with 11:31 remaining in regulation on another layup from Jones. The Mustangs proved to have one last run in them, closing the gap to two just prior to the final media timeout, before consecutive three-point plays from Clark and Howell delivered the final blow.

Oklahoma Christian (5-4, 1-3 LSC) will resume conference play in the new year, but will first host Oklahoma Panhandle State in the final home game of the calendar year Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.
