DENTON, Texas - Oklahoma Christian dropped its second-to-last road match Thursday night when Texas Woman's bested OC, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21.
As a team, the Eagles were out-hit, .204 to.185, despite the maroon-and-gray hitting north of .200 in each of the final two stanzas.Â
Chloe Jones,
Sophie Mae Smith and
Summer van Meerveld each recorded a double-double in the effort.
Oklahoma Christian held the lead for the majority of the first set, opening a 17-13 advantage for what would be its largest lead of the match. From there, TWU began to crawl back as the Eagles managed just one point to the Pioneers' two the rest of the way for the 25-22 decision.
Another slim lead early on from OC was erased with a 9-1 Texas Woman's run in route to a second-set, 25-17 win. The momentum carried over into the third frame as TWU eyed the sweep after opening with a 5-0 lead.
After a gritty comeback, Oklahoma Christian staved off the Pioneers late in the third for the 25-23 win, forcing a fourth set. For the first time all night, OC did not see a lead through the set as TWU claimed victory on the night with the 25-21 final frame.
The Eagles (16-9, 8-6 LSC) move from Denton to Dallas for tomorrow's match against DBU Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
