Volleyball Claims Pivotal Road Sweep for Fourth Straight Win

SILVER CITY, N.M. - Oklahoma Christian posted its third sweep in its last four matches as the Eagles defeated Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

The win marked the fourth straight victory for OC, with the Eagles outhitting its opponents during that stretch, .296 to .129. The victory also marked just WNMU's second home loss of the season.

Chloe Jones posted her third three-set double-double of the season, averaging 4.3 kills and 3.7 digs per set for the 13-kill, 11-dig showing. True freshman libero Macey Nehring led the defensive back line with 15 digs, marking her second most digs in a three-set match this season.

Play went back-and-forth early on until, with Oklahoma Christian holding a 10-9 lead, a 7-1 Eagle run delivered the match's first big momentum swing. The score never got within six again for the duration of the opening frame as the maroon-and-gray took the 25-17 victory.

Western New Mexico stayed vigilant, however, taking a 14-13 lead halfway through the second stanza before OC's second big run of the afternoon struck. Another 7-1 run, helped along by three kills and service ace from Jones, lifted the Eagles to a second-set 25-18 win.

For the third time, the Mustangs threatened with a 17-17 tie off an 8-2 run in what would end up being the final stanza. The Eagles withstood the punch in the mouth, mounting a four-run burst before trading points the rest of the way for the 25-21 victory.

Oklahoma Christian (14-7, 6-4 LSC), which has lost one set in its last four matches, returns to the Sooner State and will play one more road match at Cameron Tuesday, Oct. 28 before spending the weekend inside The Nest against St. Edward's Friday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. and Saturday against St. Mary's at 2 p.m.
