SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Oklahoma Christian fell in a non-conference match against Lone Star Conference member and tournament-host St. Mary's in the first match of the LSC Challenge, 3-0.
The Eagles were competitive in all three sets, scoring at least 20 points in each stanza, but OC could not overcome the momentum the home crowd of the Rattlers brought.
Riley Daugherty posted a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while
Chloe Jones and
Lauren McClure both also saw double-doubles with an 11-kill, 12-dig performance and a 15-assist, 12-dig showing, respectively.
The opening set went back and forth, but a late 5-1 run from StMU helped give the Rattlers the first set, 25-20. Set two stood to be a marathon set as play stood at a standstill, 28-28, before back-to-back St. Mary kills handed them the 2-0 lead.
Unlike the first two sets that saw Oklahoma Christian hold slight leads throughout the frame, OC never led in the third installment of the night as St. Mary took the opening match of the 2024 LSC Challenge, 3-0, after a third-set 25-20 victory.
Oklahoma Christian (7-2, 0-0) will return to Bill Greehey Arena Friday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. when it takes on St. Edward's (7-2, 0-0) after the Hilltoppers won their LSC Challenge opener over Cameron, 3-1.
