Volleyball Remains Undefeated with Pair of Day-One Wins

KEARNEY, Neb. - Oklahoma Christian relinquished just one set on day one of the Rosella Meier UNK Fall Classic as OC improved to 6-0 on the 2024 season with a 3-0 and 3-1 win over Chadron State College and Missouri Southern, respectively.

Dating back to last season, the Eagles have won seven consecutive matches and have not lost since Friday, Nov. 10. This is just the second time since the program's reinstatement in 2020 where OC has posted a six-match winning streak at any point during a single season.

Reigning Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Week Chloe Jones was the only Eagle to have double-digit kills in each match. For the day, Jones recorded 27 kills while hitting .267 and picked up 34 digs.

Senior setter Lauren McClure was one dig shy of posting a double-double in both Friday contests, posting a 15-assist, nine-dig showing against Chadron before her 18-assist, 10-dig double-double against Missouri Southern. McClure also delivered five service aces on the tournament's opening day

Oklahoma Christian (6-0, 0-0) will return to action Saturday, Sept. 14 for its toughest challenge of the young season when it battles tournament-host No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney at 12 p.m. before finishing the weekend with the University of Mary at 4 p.m.

MATCH ONE: Oklahoma Christian 3, Chadron State 0
The Eagles from Edmond, Okla. took on the Eagles of Chadron, Neb. while the OC Eagles prevailed, not allowing CSC to reach 20 points in any set. The contest started off with Oklahoma Christian holding Chadron to a -.053 attack percentage while the Sooner State squad hit .250 for the opening 25-16 set-one victory.

The second set showed to be much more competitive across the first half of the frame before OC turned it on in the latter half. With the match sitting 12-12, the Eagles closed on a 13-5 run to take a 2-0 advantage over Chadron State.

Jones, who was dominant in the opening set with seven kills, including four of OC's first eight points, echoed that performance in the third frame with another seven kills. Back-to-back winners from the Waukee, Iowa, native fueled a 4-0 spurt late in the set to turn an 18-18 tie into an Oklahoma Christian 22-18 advantage before eventually taking it, 25-19.

MATCH TWO: Oklahoma Christian 3, Missouri Southern 1
Despite getting out-hit by the Lions, .159 to .123 with 54 kills compared to 43, Oklahoma Christian had four players log double-digit digs, led by Jones with 21. Unlike the first match, MSSU scored at least 21 points in all four sets of the grueling match.

The first, third and fourth set, all of which OC wound up winning, stood tied at 19-19 before the Eagles came out on top. Late runs proved to be the difference in all three stanzas.

A first-set 19-19 deadlock was broken with a 4-0 run from OC, leading to a 25-21 victory, before a 20-20 stand-off in set three was met with another Eagle four-run spurt for the eventual 25-23 win. A late tie again in the fourth was eradicated with three straight kills from Oklahoma Christian, including the final two from Jones, to complete the 2-0 day.
