Schedule Change Update and Series Preview for Baseball’s Road Trip to No. 4 West Texas A&M

Oklahoma City, Okla - Oklahoma Christian (7-27, 7-25) will take on West Texas A&M (25-9, 24-8) on the road this weekend. The first pitch is set for Friday, April 5th, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and the series finale on Sunday.

What to know about Oklahoma Christian 
  • Lonny Cobble has been the head coach at Oklahoma Christian since the school entered Division II status in 2012. He boasts a 281-279-1 record as coach for the Eagles. 
  • Last year, the Eagles finished with an overall record of 13-37 and a conference record of 13-35. 
  • OC was picked to finish 11th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll this year. 
  • Junior catcher Hunter Jones has been everything for the Eagles. Behind the plate, he is batting .317 and he leads the Eagles in on-base plus slugging percentage (.967), hits (33), doubles (9), triples (1), home runs (4), RBIs (26), total bases (56), slugging percentage (.538), and on-base percentage (429). He has also been the team's leader on the defensive end, logging a team-high 189 putouts in 219 chances to go along with his .959 fielding percentage.  
  • On the bump, junior RHP Chris Jones has emerged as the team's ace. He has appeared in nine games this season, recording a 3.33 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched.  

What to know about No. 4 West Texas A&M
  • The Buffs are coached by Matt Vanderburg, who is in his sixteenth season as head coach, recording a 478-269 record over that span. 
  • WT has had a strong season, losing only 8 games in conference play so far with a 24-8 record, the Buffs sit at the top of the LSC.  
  • The WT offense is batting .343 as a team to go along with 269 RBIs and 30 home runs.
  • The pitching staff for the Buffs has pieced together a 5.81 ERA and 299 strikeouts throughout 275.2 innings. Opponents are batting .290 against them.
  • Some players to watch for WT are senior infielder Dylan Fesperman and junior RHP Matt Milner.
