Eagles Head Back to Texas to Take on the Rams

Oklahoma City, Okla - Oklahoma Christian (3-15) travels to San Angelo, Texas to take on the Rams of Angelo State (13-8). The first pitch is set for Friday, March 8th, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and the series finale on Sunday.

What to know about OC 
  • Lonny Cobble has been the head coach at Oklahoma Christian since the school entered Division II status in 2012. He boasts a 277-267-1 record as coach for the Eagles. 
  • Last year, the Eagles finished with an overall record of 13-37 and a conference record of 13-35. 
  • OC was picked to finish 11th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll this year. 
  • Junior catcher Hunter Jones has been everything for the Eagles. Behind the plate, he leads the team in batting average (.327), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.067), hits (18), doubles (5), triples (1), home runs (3), RBIs (17), total bases (34), slugging percentage (.618), on-base percentage (.449), and sacrifice flies (1). He has also been the team's leader on the defensive end, logging a team-high 121 putouts in 139 chances to go along with his .950 fielding percentage.  
  • On the bump, junior RHP Chris Jones has emerged as the team's ace. He has appeared in four games this season, recording a 1.98 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.  

What to know about ASU
  • Head coach Kevin Brooks has been with the Rams since starting the program in 2005. Since then, he has accumulated a 742-333 overall record, leading Angelo State to six NCAA DII College World Series Appearances and six South Central Championships.
  • The Rams are coming off of a dominant season, in which they posted a 56-9 overall record and won their first DII College World Series in program history. 
  • ASU was picked to finish 1st in the LSC preseason poll, but the Rams have not started out as hot as last year, posting a 12-8 conference record and sitting at fourth in the LSC standings.  
  • The ASU offense is batting .329 to go along with 177 RBIs and 14 home runs.
  • The pitching staff for the Chaps has pieced together a 4.76 ERA and 185 strikeouts throughout 164.2 innings. Opponents are batting .262 against them.
  • Some players to watch for the Rams are senior catcher Clark Tripp and junior RHP Dax Dathe.
