LAWTON, Okla. - Another five-set match for Oklahoma Christian yielded another come-from-behind victory as the Eagles fought back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Cameron Saturday night, 3-2.
Chloe Jones recorded another double-double, posting a team-high 19 kills, which is the most winners she has had in a conference match this season, while also adding 17 digs. Jones how has 316 kills this season, which is the most single-season kills for an OC player since the program's reinstatement in 2020.
Going with Jones' record-breaking night was her .366 attack percentage - her highest of the season when administering at least 40 total swings. Joining Jones with the efficient night was
Katy Geurin, who tallied 12 kills while hitting at a .308 clip.
Oklahoma Christian held a 15-13 lead in the first set and were tied, 15-15, in the second before Cameron fought hard and prevailed in each frame, 25-17 and 25-18, respectively. The Aggies were within one set of the upset before Geurin helped prolong play in the third.
With CU holding a 7-6 advantage, Geurin recorded two kills and a block to help fuel an 8-0 run as the Eagles kept at it for the dominant 25-14 third-set victory. Both teams responded by hitting .250 in the fourth set as play stood at a deadlock, 22-22, before the visitors scored three of the set's final four points, thanks to a pair of winners from
Avery Cole.
With six fifth-set victories already under their belt, head coach
Asa Freeman and the Eagles carried all the momentum and confidence into the final stanza, opening a 10-2 lead. For the seventh time this season, OC eventually claimed the five-set victory, 15-7.
Oklahoma Christian (18-8, 7-5 LSC) will return home before taking a trip to the Lone Star state for the first time Saturday, Oct. 12 when it takes on Lubbock Christian and No. 14 Angelo State Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m., respectively.
