Eagles High-Flying Offense Sweeps Midwestern State

EDMOND, Okla. - Behind a season-high .368 attacking percentage, Oklahoma Christian volleyball swept Midwestern State Friday afternoon from inside the Payne Athletic Center, 3-0. This was the second year in a row OC swept MSU, both of which have come on the Eagles' home floor.

Lauren McClure led the Oklahoma Christian offense with 26 assists in just three sets, averaging 8.67 assists per set. Katy Geurin delivered her second straight 11-kill outing while hitting a .474. Megan Rek made the most of her five total swings, tallying four kills for a .600 attack percentage.

Camryn McGough played the best defensive game from any Eagle on the season, posting a career-high 10 blocks while also picking up five kills on a .417 attack percentage.

Both teams were nearly identical in the opening set, with OC hitting .245 while MSU hit .244. That attacking similarity was reflected in the score as, after 48 points, play stood at a standstill, 24-24. Back-to-back kills from Chloe Jones and Annie Davis, however, handed the Eagles the opening-set victory.

With the early lead in hand, Oklahoma Christian's offense took off in the second and third sets. After seeing six attack errors in the first set, the Eagles recorded just one error in the second compared to 14 kills on 26 total attacks for a .500 attack percentage - OC's best single-set attack percentage ever in a Lone Star Conference match - in route to a dominant 25-12 second-set win.

Oklahoma Christian nearly matched its second-set offensive output with a .452 attack percentage in the third frame, logging 17 kills to just three errors on 31 total attacks. However, it was the Mustangs who controlled most of the third set before seeing a 16-11 lead. With that, the OC offense came alive once again.

Four of OC's next eight points came virtue of an Eagle kill as the hometown favorites mounted an 8-1 run to reclaim the momentum. With MSU clawing back to retake a one-point lead, 22-21, the Eagles closed on a 4-1 run, before Davis, as she did to close the first set, completed the sweep with her match-high 15th kill to seal the deal.

Oklahoma Christian (15-8, 5-5 LSC) will play one more non-conference match Monday, Oct. 28 against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. before closing the 2024 regular season with six straight conference matches.
