JONESBORO, Ark. - With 14 NCAA Division I teams competing at the Bubba Barnett Invitational, Division II member No. 4 Oklahoma Christian beat all of them save one - tournament-host (RV) Arkansas State - as the Eagles left the Natural State with a second-place 54-hole score of 27-under 837.
Tuesday matched OC's best finish ever at the Red Wolves' home tournament in what was its sixth straight year to compete in the event. Arkansas State took the top spot with a 42-under 822, while Austin Peay State and Jacksonville State followed behind Oklahoma Christian at 17-under 847.
Oskari Nikku was the main catalyst for the Eagles' second 11-under 277 round of the two-day event, carding a 7-under 65 while seeing a field-best eight birdies on the final 18. Nikku's 17 birdies across the three rounds were tied for the third most.
The 2024 Third Team All-American finished his second tournament of the 2024 fall season tied for fourth with an 11-under 205. All three of the Tuusula, Finland native's rounds came at 1-under or better, including two of the three rounds in the 60s.
Leandro Mihaich recorded his second Top-10 finish of the young season, sneaking in at 10th with a 6-under 210 final card. Following Mihaich was
Exequiel Rodriguez at 14th after birdying his final hole of the tournament to finish with a 5-under 211. With his final birdie, Rodriguez shot even-par or better in all three rounds.
True freshman
Juan Repetto came in 21st on the leaderboard after a final-day 1-over 73 to finish 2-under 214. After posting a 3-over 39 on today's front nine, Repetto played his final 9 holes 2-under 34.
Blas Ayesa saw his best round of the 54-hole event with a 2-under 70, climbing a team-high 15 spots to finish 40th. Ayesa's five birdies on the final day matched Mihaich for the second most of the team during the final round.
Vertti Perala moved up 10 spots to place 69th with his even-par 72 for a total score of 13-over 229 while
Mason Brown finished tied for 82nd at 26-over 242 to wrap up OC's individuals.
No. 4 Oklahoma Christian will compete next at conference-foe No. 20 West Texas A&M's event in the Ryan Palmer Invitational Oct. 7-8 in Amarillo, Texas.
