Volleyball Sweeps Eastern New Mexico in Home and Lone Star Conference Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - It had been a long month on the road to open the season for Oklahoma Christian (7-5, LSC 1-0), but they return to the Nest to open Lone Star Conference play in OC's home-opener against Eastern New Mexico (8-6, LSC 0-1).

FIRST SET
The first eight points for each team saw lead changes as the Eagles and Greyhounds went back and forth to open the match. Megan Rek gave OC some separation by sparking a 3-0 run to give OC an 11-8 advantage. ENMU tied it at 11-11 all, but the Eagles used the margin to respond to the rally by taking three-point leads throughout the teens. After another tie at 22-22, a Rainey Aven ace gave OC a 24-22 lead, and an ENMU attack error gave OC the first set 25-23.

SECOND SET
Eastern New Mexico came out firing and took a 3-0 lead to open the third set. But Camryn McGough, who had just one kill in the first set, took over the match with a team-high seven kills in set two. Camryn led Oklahoma Christian to a lead as large as eight at 19-11 before a brief comeback attempt ended with OC winning set two 25-19.

THIRD SET
Kathryn Christie opened the set with two kills, and four straight kills from Annie Davis helped OC fend off an early attack from ENMU. Two aces from Sara Freeman gave the Eagles a 22-17 lead, and McGough ended the match with her ninth and tenth kills to lead the Eagles to a 25-21 set win and a 3-0 sweep of the Greyhounds.

NOTES
  • Five Eagles had five or more kills, led by McGough with ten.
  • Lauren McClure dished out thirty more assists.
  • OC's front line sent back twelve Greyhound attacks, and Kathryn Christie led the way with four.
  • Seven different Eagles servers had aces, led by Sara Freeman with two.
