COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 1, 2022) – Eight Oklahoma Christian swimmers and both OC teams earned recognition on the Scholar All-America list for 2021-22, announced this week by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
For a team to earn the Scholar All-America distinction, it must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0. OC's women posted an impressive 3.59 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year, a total that tied for 18th among NCAA Division II programs. OC's men – which finished 11th in the NCAA Division II Championships in March – had a team GPA of 3.16.
The CSCAA individual Scholar All-America honors have stringent guidelines. A swimmer must post at least a 3.5 GPA and either be invited to compete at the national-championship meet (for first-team recognition) or have posted a B qualifying time standard in at least one event during the season (for second-team recognition).
Three OC women made the list.
Cheyenne Parks, a sophomore Marketing major from Guthrie, Okla., who
earned All-America second-team honors in the 200-yard backstroke at the Division II Championships, made the CSCAA's Scholar All-America first-team list. It's the third straight year Parks has been recognized by the CSCAA.
Her teammates
Mallory Mead, a sophomore Sports Management major from Timonium, Md., and freshman
Vivian Pitsch, a freshman Management/Marketing major from Koblenz, Germany, earned second-team Scholar All-America honors.
OC's men placed five swimmers on the list, including first-teamers
J.T. Amrein and
Felix Berling. Amrein, a freshman General Business major from Bonner Springs, Kan.,
won the national title in the 200 breaststroke and earned All-America honors in three individual events and three relays. Berling, a freshman Sports Management major from Meppen, Germany, was a second-team All-American in the 200 freestyle relay.
Eagles who made the second-team Scholar All-America list included junior Mechanical Engineering major
Andrew Ehler of Oak Point, Texas;
Elijah Tung, a sophomore Public Communication and Leadership major from Columbia, S.C.; and freshman Accounting major
Nathaniel Whitehead of Tigard, Ore. Tung earned the honor for a second straight year.
The Eagles are coached by head coach
Josh Davis and associate head coach
Noah Yanchulis.
