OKLAHOMA CITY (June 7, 2022) – Renewals of several long nonconference rivalries, a game against a sister institution and an always-challenging Lone Star Conference slate highlight the 2022 Oklahoma Christian men's soccer schedule, announced Tuesday by coach
Mitchell Sowerby.
OC will open its second season under Sowerby on Aug. 25 with a game at Newman (Kan.). OC's first-ever soccer game was at Newman in 1986 and the Eagles hold a 16-11-1 edge in the series against the Jets, who once played with OC in the Heartland Conference before that league disbanded.
Two days later, the Eagles will play the first of four nonconference games against LSC opponents, hosting Eastern New Mexico at the Eagle Soccer Field.
OC will visit Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Aug. 31 before hosting Southern Nazarene on Sept. 3 in the 60th meeting against its longtime rival. OC and SNU have played at least once in all but three seasons since the start of the OC program, with the Crimson Storm holding a 36-21-2 series edge.
The Eagles will visit Sowerby's alma mater, Rogers State, on Sept. 7. OC and Rogers State are former Sooner Athletic Conference and Heartland Conference rivals, with OC having an all-time record of 3-10-5 against the Hillcats.
OC and sister institution Harding (Ark.) will meet in Oklahoma City on Sept. 10, for the sixth time since 2014. The unusual series is tied 2-2-1, with neither team having won on its home field.
The Eagles' final three nonconference games will be against LSC foes – at home vs. Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Sept. 14, at Midwestern State (Texas) on Sept. 21 and at home against West Texas A&M on Sept. 24.
October will be devoted to LSC games for OC, with nine league contests scheduled. The Eagles will host Midwestern State on Oct. 1 and also will have LSC home games against Texas-Tyler on Oct. 8, St. Mary's (Texas) on Oct. 15, Texas-Permian Basin on Oct. 22 and Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 29.
OC's LSC road games will be at Lubbock Christian on Oct. 5, Texas A&M International on Oct. 12, Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Oct. 19 and West Texas A&M on Oct. 26.
