Box Score TYLER, Texas (April 14, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian batters struck out 13 times and managed only six hits as the Eagles fell 9-1 at Texas-Tyler in the opening game of a four-game baseball series on Thursday night at Irwin Field.
OC (18-24, 18-23 Lone Star Conference) entered the game as the LSC's hottest team, having won seven straight games the past two weeks to move into contention for a spot in the eight-team conference postseason tournament. Despite the loss the Eagles remained seventh in the league race, but they did fall five games behind sixth-place St. Edward's (Texas). Texas-Tyler (22-15, 22-15) is in fifth place.
Texas-Tyler knocked out OC starter
Will Rodman (3-6) in the third inning. The Patriots scored twice in the first inning, on RBI doubles by Kyle McShaffry and Ethan Bedgood, then three more times in the third inning, one of them coming home on a successful double steal.
The Patriots eventually stretched their lead to 8-0 before OC scored its lone run, when
Cole Lee's single to center field in the seventh inning plated
Grant Lake, who had reached base on an error.
Texas-Tyler starting pitcher Dylan Blomquist (6-1) gave up only four hits and struck out 11 batters over eight innings.
The Eagles and Patriots will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, with both games scheduled to last seven innings, then will play a single nine-inning game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
