LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 12, 2022) – A school-record 18-game winning streak has Oklahoma Christian continuing to rise in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II softball poll.
OC moved up three spots to No. 16 in this week's poll, released Tuesday. Sixteen coaches – two from each of Division II's eight regions – vote in the poll. This past weekend, OC (32-8) swept doubleheaders from Lone Star Conference foes Texas-Permian Basin (9-0 and 2-1 on Friday) and Western New Mexico (3-1 and 13-0 on Sunday).
The Eagles' winning streak is the second-longest active one in Division II, trailing only Colorado Christian (21 games). It has helped OC moved into a share of the lead (with No. 1-ranked Texas-Tyler) in Division II's toughest league, the Lone Star Conference.
The LSC has seven teams in this week's top 25 – Texas-Tyler, No. 8 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 11 Angelo State (Texas), No. 14 Lubbock Christian (Texas), OC, No. 19 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 23 West Texas A&M.
In addition to OC, two other Oklahoma teams are ranked – No. 2 Rogers State and No. 10 Central Oklahoma, both of which compete in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The national top 10 consists of Texas-Tyler, Rogers State, Valdosta State (Ga.), California State-San Marcos, Indianapolis (Ind.), Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.), Concordia-Irvine (Calif.), TAMUK, Tampa (Fla.) and UCO.
OC has 10 regular-season games remaining. The Eagles will host nonconference opponents Northwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday and Arkansas Tech on April 19 before finishing with LSC doubleheaders at Texas-Tyler on April 22, Texas A&M-Commerce on April 24 and Cameron on April 30.
