OKLAHOMA CITY (March 27, 2022) – A lockdown pitching performance that clinched Oklahoma Christian's series win over Eastern New Mexico earned OC baseball player Isaiah Alvarenga recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week.

Alvarenga, a sophomore right-hander from Grapevine, Texas, posted his best outing of the season on Sunday in the Eagles' 2-0 win. In his nine-inning complete-game effort, he surrendered only four hits – all singles – while striking out 11 and allowing only one runner to advance to third base. He retired 12 straight Greyhounds in one stretch, during which he struck out five straight batters.

The 11 strikeouts were the fourth-most this season by a Lone Star Conference pitcher and matched his collegiate high, set last season against Concordia (Texas) while pitching for NCAA Division III East Texas Baptist. He transferred to OC during the offseason.

With the performance against Eastern New Mexico, Alvarenga (3-3) lowered his season ERA from 6.68 to 5.18.

-- Jonathan Olsson, men's track and field: The junior thrower from Emporia, Kan., set a school record and finished second among 10 men in the javelin in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational with a throw of 180 feet, 7 inches (55.04 meters), more than two feet longer than his former school record of 178 feet, 5 inches, set last April in the Wichita State Open. Olsson also finished fourth in the hammer with a throw of 144 feet, 5 inches (44.01 meters) and sixth among 19 men in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 3½ inches (13.80 meters).

-- Brooklin Bain, softball: Bain has been on an offensive tear since moving over to softball after the end of the basketball season. The sophomore from Comanche led the Eagles to a 5-0 week, hitting .563 with a double, two triples, a home run, seven RBIs, five stolen bases, a .579 on-base percentage and a glossy 1.063 slugging percentage. She went 3 for 4 with two stolen bases and four RBIs in a 9-7 win over Southwest Baptist, delivering a pair of two-run singles, one during a five-run sixth inning for OC. She went 3 for 3 with three RBIs in a 9-1 win over Midwestern State, hitting a solo homer in the fourth inning. She tripled to lead off the second game against the Mustangs, which OC won 5-0. She stole two bases and scored twice in a 6-1 win over Texas Woman's on Sunday and tripled and scored in a 5-1 win over the Pioneers in the second game. She's hitting .437 over 20 games this season.

-- Caroline Schwab, women's track and field: Running in her first career 3,000-meter steeplechase, Schwab, a junior from Andover, Kan., won in a six-team field in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Friday with a time of 11:50.23.

The Eagle of the Week award recognizes the top performer in OC athletics for the previous week. The honor is presented each week at least one OC athletic team is in competition.
