Crandall, Stoeckel allow only 6 combined hits in OC sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 25, 2022) – With Oklahoma Christian pitchers Kali Crandall and Lindsey Stoeckel performing at a high level, the Eagles posted a commanding 9-1, 5-0 doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State (Texas) on a sunny Friday at Tom Heath Field.

No. 23-ranked OC (22-8, 10-4 Lone Star Conference) stayed in a three-way tie for fourth place in the rugged LSC while extending its winning streak to a season-best eight games. OC has won five straight and seven of its last eight games in its series against Midwestern State (4-10, 5-24).

Crandall (10-6) limited the Mustangs to only two hits and struck out six batters in the opener, giving up Midwestern State's lone run on a second-inning solo home run. Stoeckel (5-0) followed by pitching a four-hit shutout, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts. It was the senior right-hander's first seven-inning complete game in her four softball seasons with the Eagles.

In the opener, Brooklin Bain led OC offensively, going 3 for 3 with three RBIs and hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning off Midwestern State starter Kennedy Cameron (3-8). Chloe Woodward keyed a four-run second inning with a two-run double down the left-field line.

Aaliyah Brown also had a pair of run-scoring hits and Bain ended the game with a RBI single with no outs in the fifth inning that put the Eagles up 9-1.

Bain tripled to lead off the second game off Midwestern State starter Peyton Lee (0-1) and scored on a single by Hannah Pate. Doubles by Hampton Hays (her first collegiate hit) and Abi LaValley to open the third inning began a three-run outburst for OC. Kylie Janzen tripled with two outs in the fifth inning and scored on a bunt single by Rian Gamble (her second RBI of the game), making it 5-0.

OC will host LSC rival Texas Woman's in a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon on Sunday.
