OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 7, 2022) – After winning the program's first national Ultimate championship last month, Oklahoma Christian sat atop the latest
Division III power rankings produced by the website
Ultiworld.com, which were released this week.
OC was No. 3 in the most recent Ultiworld ranking and was seeded fourth in the USA Ultimate Division III Collegiate Championship in Norco, Calif. The Eagles swept through the tournament, going 6-0 and downing two previously unbeaten teams –
then-No. 1 Richmond and
then-No. 2 Middlebury (Vt.) – in the semifinals and final, respectively.
The Eagles won four of the five tournaments in which they played during the fall semester and finished second in the other. They went 16-1 in their three postseason tournaments, losing their opener to Truman State (Mo.) before starting their current winning streak.
During the season, OC beat 11 teams listed in the Ultiworld.com ranking – No. 2 Middlebury, No. 3 Richmond, No. 5 Whitman (Wash.), No. 7 Colorado College, No. 8 Carleton (Minn.), No. 10 Franciscan (Ohio), No. 11 Missouri S&T, No. 12 Sul Ross State (Texas), No. 18 Mary Washington (Va.), No. 22 Rice and No. 23 Truman State.
The Eagles had a 14-2 record against ranked foes, going 3-1 against Missouri S&T and 2-1 against Truman State.
Keith Raynor of Ultiworld.com, who produced the rankings, added this comment to OC's listing: "The national champions lost their first game of the postseason, then never lost again. Behind the high powered duo of
Kyle Henke and
Elliott Moore, the Eagles O-line simply couldn't be touched at Nationals. With OC's recruiting program, is this the beginning of a dynasty in the division?"
