SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Jan. 28, 2022) –
Brandon Heredia won two events and
Victor Rosado set an Oklahoma Christian school record in his collegiate debut, leading the Eagles past William Jewell (Mo.) 151-91 in a dual swimming meet on Friday at Breech Pool.
The Eagles, ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division II, avenged a 167-76 loss to the Cardinals from last season, when they faced off at William Jewell's pool. The rematch came at a neutral site at Drury (Mo.) and OC won 11 of the 13 events contested.
Heredia, a junior from Maryville, Mo., felt right at home and continued a dominant season by taking top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (21.26 seconds) and 100 freestyle (46.16 seconds), with teammate
Felix Berling, a freshman from Meppen, Germany, second in both races in 21.28 seconds and 46.91 seconds, respectively.
Rosado, a freshman from St. Augustine, Fla., who joined the Eagles at the semester break, won the 200 butterfly by nearly five seconds, posting a time of 1:49.97, which met the NCAA Division II B qualifying standard. It also broke the school record of 1:50.11, set in the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships by
Nathan Braun.
Rosado also finished a close second behind sophomore
Elijah Tung of Columbia, S.C., in the 100 butterfly, with Tung winning in 50.80 seconds and Rosado just .08 of a second behind.
Freshman
J.T. Amrein of Bonner Springs, Kan., remained dominant in the 100 breaststroke, winning by more than 4½ seconds with a time of 54.39 seconds. OC swimmers also finished second (
Sam Carter, 59.01 seconds) and third (
Zac Hawes, 59.45 seconds) in that event.
OC's other event winners included freshman
Dereck Montgomery of Rosenberg, Texas, in the 100 backstroke (50.31 seconds), freshman
Nathaniel Whitehead of Tigard, Ore., in the 200 backstroke (1:54.49), freshman
Lorenzo Tabladini of Castenedolo, Italy in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.02) and junior
Andrew Ehler of Oak Point, Texas, in the 400 individual medley (4:08.80).
The Eagles also won both relay races. In the 200 medley relay, Montgomery, Amrein, Tung and Heredia posted a winning time of 1:32.31, and in the 200 freestyle relay, it was Heredia,
Caleb Musser, Montgomery and Berling prevailing in 1:23.60.
The Eagles will swim a dual against No. 3-ranked Drury on Saturday.
