OKLAHOMA CITY (July 6, 2021) – Two Oklahoma Christian alumni – one a former golfer, the other an ex-baseball player – qualified on Tuesday for the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship.
Playing in a qualifier on Lincoln Park Golf Club's West Course, Caleb Price – who starred for OC's baseball team from 2011 to 2014 – shot a 5-under-par 66. Price finished one shot ahead of former OC golfer Kyle Hudelson, a two-time OGA Mid-Amateur champion who played for the Eagles on and off between 2008 and 2012.
Price and Hudelson, who both now live in Edmond, earned qualifying spots No. 12 and 13 out of 32 available. Only one current OC player tried to qualify on Tuesday – redshirt freshman
Joey Lewis of Oklahoma City, who shot a 5-over 76 and didn't finish in the top 32.
There will be 30 more qualifying spots up for grabs Thursday in another qualifier at Lake Hefner Golf Club in northwest Oklahoma City, and current OC freshman
Asher Clift is entered in that event.
The 62 qualifiers will join two exempt players to compete in the State Amateur Championship, scheduled for July 19-21 at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow.
