GOLDEN, Colo. (May 3, 2021) – For a third straight week, Oklahoma Christian was at No. 5 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's NCAA Division II South Central Region poll, released Wednesday.
OC (23-11) won once last week, rallying for a 6-5 win last Monday at Arkansas-Fort Smith on a dramatic ninth-inning, two-run double by
Michael DiFiore. The Eagles had the weekend off from Lone Star Conference play.
The top six teams remained the same in the poll, which is voted on by a committee of 12 sports information directors from schools in the two leagues that make up the region – the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Colorado Mesa (30-2) received all 12 first-place votes and 120 points, with West Texas A&M (30-5) second with 107 points, Angelo State (Texas) (31-6) third with 97 points, Metro State (Colo.) (28-8) fourth with 80 points, OC with 68 points and Colorado-Colorado Springs (21-7) sixth with 62 points.
Texas-Tyler (25-15) moved up a spot to No. 7 with 33 points, just ahead of Texas A&M-Kingsville (18-9), which moved up two spots with 32 points. Regis (Colo.) (17-11) fell two spots with 31 points while St. Mary's (Texas) (22-15) fell one spot with 30 points.
OC's nonconference home game Monday with Southeastern Oklahoma State was cancelled. The Eagles will play at nonconference foe Central Oklahoma on Tuesday before finishing the regular season with a three-game series at LSC rival Lubbock Christian (Texas) starting on Friday.
