GOLDEN, Colo. (May 17, 2021) – Losing a best-of-three playoff series over the weekend cost Oklahoma Christian in the final National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Central Region poll, released Monday.
OC, which had been in the poll since mid-March and risen as high as fifth, dropped three spots to No. 9 after losing 16-3 on Friday and 19-16 on Saturday to visiting St. Mary's (Texas) in a Lone Star Conference first-round series. The Eagles finished their season with a 24-16 record.
The regional poll is voted on by a committee of 12 members, six from each of the two leagues that make up the NCAA Division II region – the LSC and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Colorado Mesa (37-3) continued to be the region's unanimous No. 1 team. Angelo State (Texas) (36-7) moved up to No. 2, swapping places with West Texas A&M (32-7), which also lost a first-round LSC series. Metro State (Colo.) (32-8) and Colorado-Colorado Springs (26-10) stayed at No. 4 and No. 5.
St. Mary's (24-18) moved up three spots to sixth, followed by Texas-Tyler (25-15), Texas A&M-Kingsville (21-12), OC and Regis (Colo.) (21-17).
