WINFIELD, Kan. (May 1, 2021) –
Kelsey Castillo picked up her first event win in more than two years and Oklahoma Christian athletes posted four career-best times or marks on Saturday to lead the Eagles in the Southwestern Relays at Jantz Stadium.
Castillo, a senior from Edmond, Okla., led three OC runners who finished in the top five in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:45.77. It was her first event win in a track and field meet since winning the 3,000 meters at the Paul Parent Invitational in Yukon, Okla., in April 2019.
Her OC teammate, junior
Kenya Bailey of Ponca City, Okla., took third in the 22-woman field in 4:54.11, with
Payton Duesing, a junior from Lantana, Texas, fifth in 5:02.16.
OC sprinters
Bryah Davis and
Autumn Baldwin posted career-best times in the 100 meters. Davis, a sophomore from Cedar Hill, Texas, took second among 18 runners in 11.90 seconds, with Baldwin, a junior from Prosper, Texas, seventh in 12.74 seconds. In the prelims, Baldwin posted her career-best 100 times, finishing in 12.73 seconds.
Thrower
Leah Oguntope, a freshman from Houston, posted career-best marks in both the shot put and hammer. In the shot put, she placed fourth out of 23 women with a throw of 38 feet, 1¼ inches (11.61 meters), and in the hammer, she was ninth among 17 with a throw of 129 feet, 1 inch (39.35 meters).
In the 200 meters, OC senior
Destiny Johnson of Arlington, Texas, finished fifth among 24 runners in 26.04 seconds.
The Eagles now will point toward the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships, which will begin a three-day run on Thursday in Canyon, Texas, at West Texas A&M.
