GOLDEN, Colo. (April 26, 2021) – Despite a doubleheader split with a below-.500 opponent, Oklahoma Christian remained fifth in this week's South Central Region baseball poll, released Monday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
OC (22-11) zoomed up three spots to No. 5 – its highest position ever in the NBCWA regional poll – in last week's poll after a series sweep of Texas-Tyler, which then was ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II.
The Eagles' weekend series at UAFS was delayed due to rain and won't finish until Monday afternoon, but OC and the Lions split a pair of games Sunday, with OC losing 12-9 in the opener before rebounding for a 9-8 win in the second game.
Colorado Mesa (28-2) remained atop the region poll, receiving all 12 first-place votes and 120 points from a committee of sports information directors from schools in the region's two leagues, the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The top five remained unchanged from last week, with West Texas A&M (29-4) holding at No. 2 with 108 points, followed by Angelo State (Texas) (27-6) with 96 points, Metro State (Colo.) (25-7) with 81 points and OC with 64 points.
Colorado-Colorado Springs (21-7) moved up three spots to No. 6 with 58 points, with Regis (Colo.) (16-6) seventh with 38 points. Texas-Tyler (23-14) fell two spots to eighth with 37 points, while St. Mary's (Texas) (22-15) had 33 points and Texas A&M-Kingsville (15-9) had 25 points.
Following Monday's game at UAFS, OC is scheduled to host nonconference opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, then will have an open weekend.
