NORMAN, Okla. (April 17, 2021) – It was another track and field meet at a NCAA Division I facility and another school record for Oklahoma Christian's 4x100-meter relay team on Saturday at the Sooner Invitational.
The OC quartet of
Destiny Johnson,
Lawanda Harvey,
Atlanta Hopgood and
Bryah Davis posted a time of 47.67 seconds on the University of Oklahoma's John Jacobs Track to break their week-old record of 47.80 seconds, set in a meet at Wichita State.
The record was a highlight on a strong day for OC's sprint group, who battled chilly conditions, with overcast skies, a cool wind and temperatures in the 50s. Davis, a sophomore from Cedar Hill, Texas, posted career-best times in both the 100 meters (12.17 seconds, good for sixth place) and 200 meters (25.17 seconds, good for 10th in a 20-woman field).
Harvey, a senior from Frisco, Texas, finished sixth – ahead of 11 Division I runners – in the 200 in 24.97 seconds. Johnson, a senior from Arlington, Texas, had a career-best time of 1:04.10 in the 400 meters.
A pair of OC runners also posted career-best times in the 800 meters, with junior
Payton Duesing of Lantana, Texas, placing fourth in a 10-woman field in 2:18.90 and junior
Caroline Schwab of Andover, Kan., finishing in 2:24.01.
Nikkita Addy, a freshman from Moore, turned in OC's top field-event performance, placing 14th among 23 throwers in the discus with a top mark of 128 feet, 11 inches (39.30 meters).
The Eagles are set to run next weekend in the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
