Eagles edge up in regional baseball poll

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (March 29, 2021) – A series sweep of a Lone Star Conference opponent allowed Oklahoma Christian to edge up one spot to No. 9 in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II South Central Region poll, which was released Monday.

OC (11-9) had been at No. 10 the previous two weeks. The Eagles won three games against Eastern New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, prevailing 27-7, 6-4 and 12-2, after having lost four straight games a week earlier.

The NCBWA's South Central Region poll is voted on by a committee of 12 members, six from each of the two leagues that make up the region – the LSC and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The poll had a pair of new leaders this week, as Colorado Mesa (16-2) and West Texas A&M (21-3) each received four first-place votes and 99 points. Previous No. 1 Angelo State (Texas) (17-3) dropped two spots to third with 97 points. Metro State (Colo.) (18-2) and Texas-Tyler (16-7) remained fourth and fifth, respectively.

Texas A&M-Kingsville (13-6) and Colorado-Colorado Springs (12-4) were tied for sixth, followed by Regis (Colo.) (15-5), OC and St. Mary's (Texas) (11-13).

This week, OC will host LSC rival Cameron (4-15) for a three-game series that will include a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
