Assaleh named to RMAC All-Academic men’s swimming team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 23, 2021) – For a third straight year, Oklahoma Christian swimmer Andrew Assaleh made the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's All-Academic team, which was announced Tuesday.

Assaleh, a senior from Oklahoma City, was the lone OC representative on the 10-man All-Academic first-team list, while 15 other Eagles made the RMAC's All-Academic Honor Roll.

To qualify for the honor, an athlete must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average, have been a student at his institution for at least two semesters and used a season of competition during the academic year in which the award is earned. Sports information directors from RMAC institutions vote to determine the first-team list, with the award based on both academic and athletic results.

Assaleh, an Accounting major, carries a 3.973 GPA in accounting. In 2020, he qualified for the A final in the 200-yard breaststroke at the RMAC Championships and later was named to the Academic All-America At-Large third-team list by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

OC swimmers who made the All-Academic Honor Roll included Nathan Anderson, a senior Biology major from Broken Arrow, Okla.; Sam Carter, a junior Psychology major from Fort Gibson, Okla.; Griffen Cornell, a senior Electrical Engineering major from San Antonio; Shai Cunningham, a junior Mechanical Engineering major from Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Grant Denison, a senior Marketing/Management major from Oklahoma City.

Others on the Honor Roll included Derek Duckworth, a senior Mechanical Engineering major from New Braunfels, Texas; Andrew Ehler, a junior Mechanical Engineering major from Oak Point, Texas; Tyler Godsey, a sophomore Biology major from Kearney, Mo.; Kurt Gscheidle, a senior Mechanical Engineering major from Lantana, Texas; and Zac Hawes, a senior Accounting/Finance major of Houston.

Others included Evan Heidenreich, a sophomore Cellular and Molecular Biology major from Bristow, Va.; Ryan Jennings, a senior Computer Science major from Keller, Texas; Carter Shelton, a senior Sports Management major from Jackson, Tenn.; Elijah Tung, a sophomore Public Leadership and Communication major from Columbia, S.C.; and Garrett White, a sophomore Public Leadership and Communication major from Centreville, Va.
