EDMOND, Okla. (March 1, 2021) – Edmond Santa Fe High School plans to retire the jersey of current Oklahoma Christian baseball coach Lonny Cobble during a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon before the Wolves' home game against Westmoore.

Cobble, who has been OC's head coach since the 2013 season, spent the previous 19 seasons as the first baseball coach in Santa Fe's history, developing the Wolves into a consistent Class 6A power.

He posted a 536-234 record and twice guided the Wolves to the 6A championship game, in 2002 and 2009. He had 28 players sign NCAA Division I scholarships and 19 players chosen in the Major League Baseball draft, including second-round selection Brandon Weeden in 2002.

Cobble was inducted in 2011 into the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame. He's been honored as the OBCA's All-Region 8 coach six times and served as the West coach for the annual All-State games in 2002. He was named as the Worth coach of the year in 2005, the Miller Net coach of the year in 2006 and the Micky Owens coach of the year in 2007.

Cobble wore jersey No. 0 at Santa Fe, the same number he wears at OC. Santa Fe plans to hang a framed No. 0 jersey in its locker room and has plans to paint the number on one of the walls at its stadium.

Santa Fe chose Tuesday's game for the ceremony because its opponent, Westmoore, is coached by Andrew McGuire, an assistant under Cobble at OC from 2013 to 2019. One of Westmoore's assistant coaches is Zac Cobble, who played for his father at OC from 2014 to 2016.

"It's a real honor," Lonny Cobble said. "I was really floored when I found out what they're doing. A lot of people deserve this more than me. I am humbled that they thought about me in doing this. I'm not deserving of it, but it's exciting. It should be a lot of fun. I am glad they're doing it when they're playing Westmoore so coach Mac and Zac can be there. I thought that was a pretty cool thing to do."

The ceremony will start about 4:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe field. In order for Cobble to arrive at Santa Fe in time for the ceremony, OC's game on Tuesday afternoon at Southern Nazarene has been moved to a 1 p.m. start.
