WICHITA, Kan. (Feb. 6, 2021) – On the opening day of its first bowling tournament in more than 10 months, Oklahoma Christian posted strong scores on Saturday in the Mid-States Championships at Northrock Lanes.
The Eagles stood in third place in the 15-team field after five team games with a score of 4,670. Perennial powerhouse Wichita State – one of the tournament's co-hosts – led the event with a score of 5,032, with Midland (Neb.) second at 4,750. OC led a tight pack that included Ottawa (Kan.) at 4,633 and West Texas A&M at 4,614.
OC had four players in the individual top 50, led by sophomore
Sarah Young, who was 10th at 990 while competing in her first tournament with the Eagles. Young rolled a 221 in her opening game and closed with a 204.
Two spots behind Young was sophomore
Morgan Pelkie of Sarnia, Ontario, who rolled games of 212 and 216 to start and finished with a five-game total of 974. Freshman
Jessica Flanagan of Lavaca, Ark., rolled a 229 in her third game and was 27th at 910.
Junior
Taylore Ryan of Allen, Texas, didn't bowl in the first game, but then put together games of 201, 211, 162 and 259 for an overall score of 833, putting her in 45th.
Wichita State's Janack Madison topped the individual list with a score of 1,104.
The teams will play 16 Baker games on Sunday.
