LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 20, 2021) –
Kenya Bailey and Oklahoma Christian's distance medley relay team each posted a fourth-place finish and two other OC runners advanced to event finals on the first day of the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Bailey, a junior from Ponca City, Okla., took fourth in the 5,000 meters on the track at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center, a two-spot jump over her finish in last season's LSC meet. With a time of 18:37.96, she moved into the top four in the 14-woman field by the 800-meter mark and stayed there the rest of the race, earning OC five team points.
In the distance medley relay, OC's quartet of
Emma Davison,
Destiny Johnson,
Payton Duesing and
Caroline Schwab finished in 13:14.99 and earned the Eagles five more team points.
Duesing, a junior from Lantana, Texas, finished third in the 800-meter prelims, while
Bryah Davis, a sophomore from Cedar Hill, Texas, was seventh in the 60-meter prelims, with both advancing to their respective event finals on Sunday. Davis just missed qualifying in the 200 meters, placing 11th in the prelims in that event.
OC's top field-event performance came from sophomore
Taelor Brown of Pawnee, Okla., who finished ninth – one spot away from scoring a team point – in the weight throw with a mark of 46 feet, 1¼ inches (14.05 meters).
With 10 team points through five completed events, the Eagles stood sixth in the 10-team meet, just five points behind fifth-place Texas A&M-Commerce. West Texas A&M led the meet with 68 points, well ahead of second-place Angelo State (Texas) with 46.
There will be 12 events that will conclude on Sunday, the last day of the meet.
