OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 22, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian Ultimate player
Kevin van Roosmalen is
one of 21 nominees from Division III for the prestigious Donovan Award.
The Donovan Award is presented by Ultiworld.com to a female and male player from Division III (programs from schools with enrollments of 7,500 or fewer students) who are selected by their divisional peers. Voting for the award began on Tuesday and will continue through Dec. 31. Only Division III college students with a current USA Ultimate membership are eligible to vote.
Among the criteria for the award are that the player must demonstrate an exceptional level of skill and athleticism on the field, uphold the principles of Ultimate's "Spirit of the Game," equity and fairness in their own actions, while holding their teammates accountable to do the same, and acts as a leader off the field, both on their team and in the greater Ultimate community.
The award will be presented at a to-be-determined date in 2022.
A junior from Rosmalen, Netherlands, van Roosmalen was one of OC's first major recruits after the university began its innovative scholarship Ultimate club program in 2019. He's been a key member of OC's offensive line this season during the Eagles' drive to the national title. In the USA Ultimate Division III College Championships in Norco, Calif., he contributed three goals and an assist. He scored a critical goal off a deflection in the Eagles' 15-12 title-game win over Middlebury (Vt.) on Monday.
OC won four of the five tournaments in which it competed this fall and finished second in the other, going 29-2 in individual matches, including 16-1 in postseason play. The Eagles will take a 16-game winning streak into the spring campaign.
