Claire McDermott rolled a 278 game and
Morgan Pelkie stood in the individual top 30 for Oklahoma Christian on the first day of the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday at South Point Bowling Arena.
OC posted a team score of 5,274 over six games and stood 15th among the 31 teams entered in the Tier I tournament. After three more team games on Sunday, the top eight teams in the field will advance to match play. The Eagles will enter the day 206 pins behind the eighth-place team, Tennessee Southern. Wichita State leads the team race at 6,206.
Pelkie, a sophomore from Sarnia, Ontario, stood 26th in the 202-woman field with a score of 1,140 that included games of 223 and 203. Also rolling a pair of 200-plus games was
Jordan Corbett of Owasso, Okla., who posted a 224 and a 207 en route to an overall score of 1,098, which put her in 41st place.
Four other Eagles rolled a 200 game for OC, including freshman
Liberty Pierce of Kingwood, Texas (207), freshman
Shelby Davis of La Porte, Texas (205) and freshman
Jessica Flanagan of Lavaca, Ark. (218). But McDermott, a sophomore of Harrisburg, Ill., produced the biggest game of OC's season to date with her 278, which came in the final game of the day.
The Eagles will resume action at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday.
